The letter says that the board has received complaints that there are many schools where most of the days. The DEO’s letter orders officials to carry out random checks on private, grant-in-aid and government schools and find out details of absent students.
In May a member of the board had written a letter to the chief minister and the state education minister asking that the board should investigate and act against dummy schools operating in the state. The letter written by Priyavadan Korat, a member of the board, said that there are many schools in the state both affiliated with GSHSEB and other central boards operating in the state which are only on paper and give admissions to students starting from Class 11.
The letter stated that these schools attract the students who want to get admitted in premier institutes such as IIMs, IITs and medical colleges. The letter says that these schools don’t have school premises and teachers and no academic activities are conducted. These schools somehow manage to get board’s approval for Class 12 science stream practical exams. Korat also alleged that these dummy schools don’t assign their teachers on answer sheet assessment duty because the teaching staff only exist on paper.
