2 dogs found dead, 3rd treated after blaze at ‘densely packed’ Canoga Park home – Daily News

Two dogs were found dead inside a “densely packed” Canoga Park home after Los Angeles city firefighters put out a fire Saturday morning, May 18, authorities said.

A third dog was found alive and cared for by firefighters, LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

Firefighters were called to the 21700 block of West Napa Street just past 7:15 a.m. and arrived to find a single-story home with heavy smoke showing, Humphrey said.

The firefighters began an offensive attack and forced entry into the 1,320-square-foot structure and found heavy fire in one room at the southwest corner of the home, Humphrey said.

The flames extended into the attic, but firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about 30 minutes, the spokesman said. They then searched the house and found the three dogs.

Firefighters struggled to get inside the home due to “excessive personal storage both inside and outside,” Humphrey said. After the fire was put out, firefighters had difficulty getting through the home, needing 45 minutes to complete the search of the house.

Three adults live at the home but were not there when the fire broke out Humphrey said. No injuries to firefighters were reported.

The spokesman said the surviving dog was described by a firefighter as a Doberman. Further information about the dogs was not available.

The cause and origin of the fire were both under investigation.
