2024 Renault Megane E-Tech priced with Tesla Model Y in its sights

Renault’s first electric SUV in Australia, the Megane E-Tech, is available to order.

It’ll be priced from $64,990 before on-road costs, aligning it with the base Tesla Model Y ($65,400 before on-roads) and the entry-level Kia Niro S EV ($66,590 before on-roads).

The first examples will touch down in Australia before the end of 2023.

One specification (Techno EV60) will be offered in Australia, with an electric motor making 160kW and 300Nm. The 100km/h sprint takes a claimed 7.4 seconds.

The 60kWh lithium-ion battery pack is good for a claimed range of up to 454km on the WLTP test cycle. It’ll charge at 7.4kW hooked up to an AC wall box, or up to 130kW when plugged into a DC public fast charger.

At 4200mm long and 1768mm wide, with a 2685mm wheelbase, the E-Tech is shorter and narrower than a Hyundai Kona on the outside but rides a longer wheelbase.

Renault says the Megane E-Tech offers comparable space to the cars in the class above inside. Claimed boot space is 440 litres, expanding to 1332L with the rear seats folded.

Unusually for an electric vehicle, the E-Tech is light. Its tare mass of 1642kg undercuts the Model Y by close to 300kg.
