Colin Chapman continues to roll over in his grave as Lotus has unveiled the all-new Emeya, which is a fully electric four-door flagship.

Set to go into production next year, the model follows in the footsteps of the Eletre and will be the company’s first sedan since the Carlton.

Lotus is keeping full details under wraps, but said the model has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system developing up to 905 hp (675 kW / 918 PS) and 726 lb-ft (985 Nm) of torque. They added this should enable the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.78 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 159 mph (256 km/h). That being said, the latter number sounds suspect as the Eletre R can hit 165 mph (265 km/h).

Power is provided by a 102 kWh battery pack, which is significantly smaller than the one used in the crossover. However, the car will have “market-leading charging capabilities” as it can get 93 miles (150 km) of range in as little as five minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger. If you’re not in a rush, you can get an 80% charge in 18 minutes.

An Eletre In Sedan Form

On the styling front, there aren’t any surprises as the model adopts an edgy and angular design that mimics the Eletre. Lotus didn’t say much, but the car has slender lighting units and a bulging hood. They’re joined by an active shutter grille, an active diffuser, and an active rear spoiler.

Moving down the sides, we can see flush-mounted door handles and camera pods. Designers also gave the car contrasting black A-pillars, which flow into a matching roof. Other highlights include a ventilated rear fascia and a slender light bar.

A Classy And Minimalist Cabin

Lotus only gave a few glimpses of the cabin, but we can see a minimalist interior with four individual seats. That being said, previous spy photos have shown a rear bench so customers will likely have an option between the two.

Regardless, the model features a flat-bottom steering wheel and a small digital instrument cluster. They’re joined by a floating infotainment system, which looks like a blatant Tesla rip off. The company didn’t go into specifics, but it likely measures 15.1 inches like in the crossover.

Rounding out the highlights are carbon fiber trim and classy switchgear. Lotus also said the model has Alcantara and Nappa leather upholstery as well as repurposed fibers from the fashion industry as a nod to sustainability.

Lotus will release additional details in the fourth quarter, but the model sports a KEF audio system as well as an electronically controlled air suspension. The latter automatically adjusts based on sensors that “feel the road 1,000 times a second.”
