49ers face Rams, likely sit Christian McCaffrey

The final game of the 49ers’ regular season will lack the drama of the prior 17, but it comes at a familiar time against a familiar foe.

San Francisco will host the Rams this Sunday at 1:25 p.m., the NFL announced after the conclusion of all the Week 17 games.

The Niners clinched the NFC’s No. 1 seed with a 27-10 win Sunday over the Commanders and the Eagles’ surprise loss to Arizona, so they have the option to rest their starters against Los Angeles in the finale. They’ll also be off the following weekend, when the NFC’s other six playoff teams compete in the wild-card round.

Running back Christian McCaffrey, who missed the latter stages of Sunday’s win in Washington with a calf injury, is likely to pick up some rest, and coach Kyle Shanahan said postgame that he expected to sit some other players, too.

On the AFC side, the Ravens have the same luxury after demolishing No. 2-seeded Miami in Baltimore on Sunday.
