Telangana schools closed for 4 days: Here’s why

Telangana School Holiday: The Telangana Government has announced a four-day holiday for Telangana schools and colleges, starting today February 21, 2024 till February 24, Saturday.
According to media reports, the Disctrict Collector of Mulugu issued a notice for closure of both private and government schools in the district for four days, owing to the celebration of Medaram Jathra – a local fair.
The Medaram fair, renowned as the largest tribal fair in Asia, is often likened to the Telangana Kumbh Mela. Drawing devotees from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and beyond, it spans four days, adhering to tribal customs. What began as a modest tribal festival has evolved into a significant pilgrimage, held biennially in Medaram Village of Tadvai Mandal, within the dense forests of Mulugu district. Designated as a State Festival in 1998, this year’s Jathara will take place from February 21 to February 24, 2024.
Special arrangements for visitors
The Union Minister for Tourism and Culture has scheduled special trains from February 21 to February 24 to transport pilgrims from various Telangana regions to Medaram for the biannual festival. Thumbi Aviation has also introduced helicopter services for attendees at the Medaram Maha Jatara festival, one of the world’s largest tribal festivals. These services began on February 17.
