Ex-Chiefs star Billiat reacts to Yadah move

Khama Billiat has finally commented on his move to the ambitious Zimbabwe outfit Yadah Stars. The former Kaizer Chiefs poster boy signed for the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League team on Wednesday. The forward is set to become the league’s highest-earning player.

Commenting via his Facebook page, the 33-year-old seemed relieved to return to action. On Wednesday, the former Mamelodi Sundowns crowd-puller posted a picture of himself signing the contract for Yadah and wrote: “Back to work, Thanks God for Another Chance.” The PSL star, in another post of February 17, 2024, seemed to address his critics, saying: “When they fail to destroy you, they influence others to hate you.”

Billiat gets a lifeline at Yadah after months on sidelines

Billiat is set to return to action after spending eight months on the sidelines. He exited Chiefs in an acrimonious manner last year.  The PSL star is said to have declined a salary cut to extend his stay at Naturena. Several PSL teams were linked with Billiat. Cape Town City and SuperSport United appeared close to signing the former Chiefs man. However, both prospects fell through hence he explored options back home in Zimbabwe.

Revealed: How much will Billiat earn at Yadah?

Zimbabwe’s authoritative Sunday Mail newspaper paper has reported that the winger is set to pocket around R95,000 ($5,000) per month. The newspaper adds that Billiat will also receive around R378,000 ($20,000) from Yadah as a signing-on fee. Billiat was set to be earning around R800,000 at Chiefs.

Yadah chairperson Everson Chitambudza fell short of disclosing the figures. He, however, admitted that they had to dig dipper to sign the star. The newspaper quoted the club’s chairperson saying: “What I can say is that we negotiated with Khama. We flew him from South Africa and we should unveil him tomorrow [Thursday].

Chitambudza added: “I wouldn’t know what other clubs are paying their players to confirm if what we have offered him makes him the highest-paid player. At the moment, I am not at liberty to talk about figures, but maybe after the official unveiling has been done. We are still working on the logistics of the unveiling ceremony. Considering his huge profile and that he was also the highest-paid player at Kaizer Chiefs, yes, we had to table a very good offer for him. We believe he is worth it.”

How Dynamos lost the chase for ex-Sundowns star

His move to the modest team in Zimbabwe came as a bit of a surprise. Earlier, reports had linked the former Warriors star with a move to top side Dynamos FC. However, the former Sundowns player took most fans by surprise when he opted to seal a move to Yadah, the club that barely survived relegation last season.
