Bettor forced to wager $6,575 on golfer thanks to viral X post

This sports bettor missed the old phrase “Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it” when he posted a betting social experiment on X.

“For every like this tweet gets in the next 24 hours I will bet $5 on Carl Yuan to win the Mexico Open,” X user @tomandmartys posted.

He was then humorously taken to the cleaners by users who decided to like the post, garnering 1,315 likes, forcing him to pony up $6,575.

The user is obviously having some buyer’s remorse as strangers came in, in droves to like his post.

“Oh for f–ks sake. You people are sick. My dumb ass golf tweets never get more than like 5 likes. This must be my enemies trying to bankrupt me. But I’ll get the last laugh you b–tards,” the user posted.

Yuan was 90/1 to win the tournament at open, started the day on Friday at even par, sitting at 250/1 to win outright at FanDuel.

It took awhile for the bettor to even get down that kind of money on such a long shot, with his biggest single wager being just $3,814.

He had to use four different sports betting apps and went in-person at two different upstate New York casinos in an attempt to make good on his promise.

Now he hopes that Yuan gives him a shot at incredible glory, with Yuan eight shots off the lead but his odds have plummeted dramatically from a challenging early start.

“BOOM! Birdies 18,” @tomandmartys said. “After 18 bad approach shots you’ll see, I’ll take an even par round! Way to grind Carl on a day when you didn’t have it. Pure grit brotha!”

The bettor claims to have a betting model for golf that showed that Yuan was “due.”

In the early going, it hasn’t been too strong, but Yuan is within striking distance as we approach the cut.
