Yahoo Mail down updates — Thousands of workers unable to access email app amid outage as AOL users also affected

Yahoo shares way to speed up app fix

Yahoo is still rolling out its fix for yesterday’s outage.

If you want to speed up the fix you can uninstall your app and download it again, the company said on X.

Here’s what Yahoo had to say: “Thank you for your patience as we have worked to resolve an issue with our Apps today.

“A fix has rolled out, but this may take up to 24 hours to reach your device. To achieve a faster resolution, you can uninstall and reinstall your App.

“Please note: We recommend not uninstalling your App unless your login credentials (password etc.) are known, or your recovery channels are up to date, as you will be required to log back in upon reinstall.”

Changing your Yahoo Mail password

Once you are asked to type in your password at sign-in, click the “Forgotten password?” button – which will give you some options, depending on what capabilities you have enabled.

You can select your mobile phone number – where you will receive a code to enter – or you may have a recovery email address set up.

There may also be the option of verification via a phone app, such as the Yahoo Account Key through one of their applications like Yahoo Mail.

Choose one of these, change your password and then login as normal.

Signing into Yahoo Mail, part three

You can also set up your Yahoo account on third-party apps such as Outlook on desktop and mobile, and Android and iPhone email apps.

From there, you can use a single-use app password that you would find in Account Settings to log in.

Signing into Yahoo Mail, part two

To access your laptop using a fingerprint or an additional code, you must buy a USB key that fits into the security key slot.

Yahoo offers an additional verification method known as Yahoo Account Key. To use this technique, download a Yahoo program (such as Mail) and enable the Account Key in your settings.

This implies that each time you attempt to log in, you will receive a notification on your phone asking you to accept or reject the attempt rather than entering a password.

How to reset your email

If you’re still struggling to access Yahoo Mail, the company suggests the following steps:

For iOS devices:

  • Close out any existing session
  • Open the Settings app on your device and search for Yahoo
  • Click on the Yahoo app, scroll to the bottom, and toggle the “Reset All Accounts” option
  • Toggle on the button to relaunch the app

For Android devices:

  • Hold down on the app
  • Click on “info” in the top right corner to open Settings
  • Scroll down to the usage section and open the “storage row”
  • Clear you cache and data
  • Reopen the app

Reports dropped

Reports of outages with Yahoo Mail have dropped to under 300 in the last hour, per Downdetector.

Yahoo users should be able to access their inboxes now.
