The Vikings have not come to an agreement with wide receiver Justin Jefferson on a new contract, but they aren’t considering trading him as a way to avoid a long-term commitment.
A report from Minnesota over the weekend suggested that the Vikings could make Jefferson available in a trade this offseason. However, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell strongly denied this idea during a Tuesday appearance on PFT Live from the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
“I can tell you we have no intention to trade Justin Jefferson,” O’Connell said. “We have had zero discussions or dialogue about that internally or externally. I firmly believe that Justin is one of the best in his position in football. Although reaching a new contract with him won’t be easy, our intent is stronger than ever to get something done with Justin.”
General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah also expressed a similar message during a press conference with reporters. However, both sides will have to work out the details of a contract that is expected to be substantial.
