Podcaster and comedian Joe Rogan laid out his nightmare vision of a “Soviet Union-style gulag” situation in the United States where people are tried and convicted for refusing to use people’s preferred pronouns.
In a conversation with Christopher Rufo, Rogan noted how quickly he’s seen the world change as someone who grew up without internet. When discussing institutions and educators who push “psychotic policies,” Rogan sounded the alarm on a possible centralized digital currency that would be tied to social credit score, leading people to self-censor.
“The problem is also that the same people that are involved in pushing these psychotic policies, they’re not just the educators, they’re also these institutions that recognize the power dynamic and the amount of influence that you can have,” he said. “If you can get people to adhere to these things, you can get them to do something really stupid, like submit to a social credit score system, which you would attach to a centralized digital currency. Now you’ve got communism.”
The UFC commentator took things further by envisioning a 2029 United States where people can be legally punished for not using certain pronouns.
“It could be something as simple, simple as not using XYZ or not using XHR. And all of a sudden you get hit with a federal charge of not using XR, and now you are being tried for discrimination,” Rogan said. “And if those fucking psychos are in charge, you might get convicted. And now all of a sudden you’ve got a real Soviet Union style gulag situation in 2029 United States of America.”
