Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has thanked the club supporters for coming in numbers after his side beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 on Saturday.
A brace from Monnapule Saleng and a long-range strike by Thabiso Lebitso inspired the Buccaneers to a Soweto Derby at the FNB Stadium.
Pirates fans outnumbered those in black and gold which was rare to see.
During the post-match interview, Riveiro gave credit to the supporters for inspiring his team to come from behind and win against Chiefs.
“The atmosphere today from the warm-up was something else,” he said as per TimesLive.
“The energy at the stadium, I can tell you that it is very special. They [Pirates’ supporters] made it possible today.
“I think the last derby was the opposite. There was the majority of the Chiefs fans but today the Pirates fans dominated the stands,” Riveiro added.
The Pirates coach said the fans played a huge part in the team’s victory on Saturday afternoon.
“It’s probably one of the reasons we performed the way we did because today we didn’t feel there was no support when things were not going our way.

“They were supporting us all the time and cheering and not putting so much stress on the boys. They did a fantastic job to help us to come back twice,” Riveiro said.
“It would be nice to have this kind of atmosphere in every game we play.
“I’m sure if we fill Orlando [Stadium], that kind of atmosphere when you play at home it makes things very difficult for the opponents. It makes things easy to run an extra mile,” he said.
Riveiro has become the second Pirates coach to complete a league double over Chiefs after Ruud Krol.
