Marvin Harrison Jr. apparently wants to spread his wings.
Paris Johnson Jr., an offensive tackle on the Cardinals who played with Harrison at Ohio State, appeared on the “Cardinals Corner” podcast last week and revealed the star wideout would like to play in Arizona as the 2024 NFL Draft nears.
“Right when I got drafted, I literally went to Marvin and was like, ‘Dude, you know you’re a Cardinal, right?’” Johnson said on the show. “I knew he was going to be a Cardinal because I saw what happened with D-Hop [DeAndre Hopkins]. I’m like, the Cardinals are probably going to want another 6-4 receiver.”
Harrison was apparently receptive to the idea.
“He said he wanted to be a Cardinal,” Johnson said when asked about Harrison’s reaction to his original comments.
The Cardinals currently hold the fourth overall pick in next month’s NFL draft — three selections behind the Bears, who acquired the top pick from the Panthers last year, followed by the Commanders and the Patriots.
Harrison, considered the best wide receiver prospect in this year’s draft, was projected to go to the Cardinals in The Post’s most recent mock draft.
He is the son of Marvin Harrison, the great Colts wideout who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
Earlier this week, Harrison Sr. explained his son’s controversial decision to skip working out and meeting with media at the recent NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
“It’s been a very restful process,” the Hall of Famer said, as covered by Cleveland.com.
“Something we took into consideration from Day 1, which was how are we going to prepare for the 2024 NFL season? I sat down, talked to Jr. and said, ‘Listen we can put yourself in the realm of an NFL player now and prepare for the future or you can get ready to do things that everyone else is doing.’
“When I explained it to him we said when you’re a rookie coming into this league and you’ve been playing three or four years of college football it’s tough to maintain, be strong and have a great rookie season. I said if we just rest — just like every other player or NFL receiver is doing right now in January, February, I think it’ll pay off for you later down the line.”
