Wembley continues to set the gold standard for golf courses in the State after taking out the top prize at the WA Golf Industry Awards.
The Wembley Golf Course was named the metropolitan golf facility of the year after a renovation of its famed mini golf course and the introduction of technology that tracks every ball golfers hit from its two-storey driving range.
The advancements contributed to a 20 per cent increase in membership in 2023 and the money making course for the Town of Cambridge delivered more than 185,000 rounds of golf, 65,000 games of mini golf and 26 million balls hit on to the driving range last year.
Acting operations manager Simon Smith said the win was great for all who spent time at the picturesque facility.
“It is nice getting some recognition for the team and all the players that play who contribute to the facility,” he said.
“A lot of hard work has gone into it and we will continue to improve the golf course and the facilities around.
“Wembley is not just a place for golfers; we also have mini golf and a driving range which suits everyone from beginners to advanced regular golfers.”
Wembley Golf Course coach Andrew Thomas was also named WA PGA Coach of the Year for game development for the second year in a row.
“I was up against a lot of good coaches, so it was good to come out on top,” Thomas said.
“I coach anyone from beginners to tour players but for me it is more about getting people interested in the game and trying to improve their golf games.
“It is a great feeling when student tells you that they are playing better.”
Town of Cambridge mayor Gary Mack said the vision remained to make Wembley the best golfing experience in Australia.
