Leading Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra on Thursday unveiled the name of its new sports utility vehicle (SUV) offering ‘XUV 3XO’.

The vehicle, pronounced ‘3-ex-Oh’, will be launched on April 29, the company said in a press release.

“It seamlessly integrates thrilling performance, cutting-edge technology, unmissable design, and unparalleled safety to cater to the aspirations of urban drivers. With triple the appeal in each journey it surpasses expectations in all facets of SUV ownership,” the company said.

The XUV 3XO will be manufactured at its Nashik, Maharashtra unit.

In February, Mahindra’s SUV sales rose 40 per cent on a year-on-year basis to 42,401 units, and traction was expected to be seen in March. The company currently has one utility vehicle, the XUV 400, in the EV segment. The new models will be on an all-new EV platform, which is termed as born EV but continue to be in the UVs and SUVs.

Auto companies have been increasingly focusing on SUVs in India, as the category has seen more demand in recent years. A surge in domestic sales of pricier sport utility vehicles (SUVs) last year has extended into 2024. Utility vehicles accounted for nearly 60% of total passenger vehicle sales from April 2023 to February 2024, according to industry data.Mahindra & Mahindra reported a 28 per cent increase in passenger vehicle wholesales at 4,59,877 units in FY24, as against 3,59,253 units in FY23.
