An Australian pilot has answered some of the most asked questions about flying, including if it is OK to recline your seat on the plane and how to score yourself an upgrade to business class.
Jimmy Nicholson — who rose to fame after finding love with Holly Kingston on reality TV show The Bachelor — shared fascinating insights into being a pilot.
Taking to his Instagram stories on Wednesday night, Mr Nicholson spoke about the unwritten rule of being a passenger on a domestic flight when asked about passengers reclining their seats.
“I am so glad someone asked this question,” he said.
“Domestic flights, do not touch the reclining, don’t do it, you don’t need to and it’s cramped enough as it is.
“On international flights, fair game but I always do a bit of a courtesy look back before to make sure someone’s not about to eat or are sort of resting their head on the recline.
Mr Nicholson said the way in which the seat is reclined also matters.
“You can’t be aggressive, you have to do a gentle recline back. It has to be a courteous recline.
“Be good humans, people. Don’t use to bloody recline on domestic flights.”
The 34-year-old also spoke about the secret business class upgrade “hack”, making a sad revelation for many travellers.
“So my understanding is the upgrade system is based on a bidding system, so if you’re bidding for points, my understanding is the person that bids the most points or pays the most amount of money will get the upgrade,” Mr Nicholson said.
“There’s no real hack to it, they say be the nice to the check-in person but … it all happens behind the scenes.”
When asked about the weirdest thing he’s ever experienced while flying, Nicholson said it happened on a flight to Sydney.
“It was night time and all of a sudden boom, the whole sky lit up, it was literally from night to day,” he said.
“Turns out it was a meteor, which scared the living shit out of me and the person I was flying with.
“This person had been flying for 35 years and said it was the craziest thing she had ever seen.”
At the beginning of this year, the TV star made a huge announcement regarding his career as a pilot.
After having piloted Airbus planes for just over five years, Mr Nicholson revealed he will be moving on to Boeing’s fleet.
