The Education Ministry’s Higher Education Department said in a notification that President Droupadi Murmu, in her capacity as Visitor of the university, appointed Prof Naima Khatoon as Vice Chancellor for a period of five years from the date she assumes charge or attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
Who is Naima Khatoon?
Professor Naima Khatoon, who assumed the role of Principal at AMU’s Women’s College in July 2014, boasts a distinguished career as both an educator and an administrator. Prior to her tenure as Principal, she held the esteemed positions of Professor and Chairperson within the Department of Psychology, specialising in clinical, health, applied social, and spiritual psychology.
Additionally, she has been instrumental in fostering skill development and career planning initiatives at the Aligarh Muslim University since October 2015, serving as the Director of the Centre for Skill Development & Career Planning.
With a PhD (Doctorate of Philosophy) in Political Psychology earned through extensive research at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi, and AMU, her academic journey began in August 1988 as a lecturer, progressing to Associate Professor in April 1998, and ultimately attaining the rank of Professor in July 2006. She further taught at the National University of Rwanda for a year.
She has authored/co-authored/edited 6 books and published a number of papers in the journals of national and international repute. She has supervised 15 PhD theses and a large number of dissertations.
