New Delhi: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organises the Chartered Accountancy (CA) Examination each year and for the ICAI CA Exam 2024, candidates were demanding the ICAI CA Exam 2024 Postponement and for this, petitions were also filed in the Supreme Court of India. The pleas were heard today by a CJI DY Chandrachud-led bench of the Supreme Court and a verdict has also been given regarding the ICAI CA Exam Date 2024. ICAI CA Exam 2024 Postponed?
As mentioned earlier, candidates who are appearing for the ICAI CA Exam 2024, had filed petition in the Supreme Court, seeking for its postponement. However, the apex court has refused to push the exam date and now, the ICAI CA Exam 2024 will be held from May 2, 2024, as planned. The petition was filed for the postponement of exams falling on May 7 and May 14 because of the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024. The petitioner, on behalf of the CA aspirants was quoted in a Bar & Bench report as saying, “There are students from Kalahandi and other rural areas who will not be able to appear for the exams on 8th and 14th May since elections are on. It can be on 7th and 13th May.”
She was further quoted as saying, “We are not asking for a bulk postponement. If there is a bunch of candidates from Rajouri. Now they can only come by public transport. With security issues, it is impossible to travel and public buses also withdrawn during elections. Hostels are also being asked to vacate. One we are asking postpone and if not possible then at least allow an out option so that one does not suffer if they are not appearing on May 8 and May 14.”
Supreme Court REFUSES To Postpone ICAI CA Exam 2024
While dismissing the petitions seeking the postponement of the ICAI CA Exam 2024, CJI DY Chandrachud said that changing the date at this time would disrupt the arrangements already made for the examination and may also be a grave injustice to some students. Quoting a Bar & Bench report, the Court said, “Scheduling of exams pertains to policy decisions. But weighing the importance of right to vote we have examined the proposition of candidates who shall be appearing for exams and would also need to vote. 591 centres are there and no exams on polling dates. At this stage when 4 lakh plus students have enrolled any relief at this stage would result in grave prejudice.”
ICAI CA Exam 2024 Date-Wise Schedule
As per the updated schedule, the ICAI Group -I Intermediate Examination will be held on May 3, 5, and May 9, 2024. Meanwhile, ICAI Group-II Intermediate Examination will be conducted on May 11, 15, and 17, 2024. All updates regarding the ICAI CA Exam 2024 will be available on the official website – www.icai.org.
