Mandurah Detectives are investigating a suspicious late night fire at the Mandurah Forum, just months after the shopping centre was targeted in a separate deliberate blaze.
A small fire in a passageway at the front of the shopping centre was reported to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services at 9.46pm on Monday night.
A DFES spokesman said smoke inside the shopping centre triggered an alarm, with crews from Mandurah Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service attending the centre on Pinjarra Road and extinguishing the fire within 10 minutes.
Attending firefighters deemed the fire as suspicious and reported it to Police.
The fire caused damage to a water pump at the shopping centre, but the centre and all shops were able to open on Tuesday.
A WA Police spokeswoman confirmed the cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious with Mandurah detectives seeking the public to come forward with any information about the fire.
The fire comes after the Mandurah Forum was targeted in another alleged arson earlier this year.
In the early hours of March 22, a person forced entry through a back door to the storeroom of the centre’s Kmart store before setting fire to items on a set of shelves and leaving on foot.
The fire spread quickly through the storeroom, causing damage estimated at $100,000 and forcing the store to close for several weeks.
Police confirmed on Tuesday their investigation into the Kmart fire is continuing with no charges laid.
