CUET UG 2024 Exam day strategies for general test

The General Awareness section covers static General Knowledge, whereas Current Affairs questions test an applicant’s understanding of both national and international events and developments. Here’s a look at a few key strategies candidates can use to score well on the general test section of the CUET UG 2024:
Reading comprehension – identify the question’s focus
When tackling reading comprehension questions, it’s crucial not only to understand the passage but also to actively search for the answer’s location. To do this effectively, underline keywords in the question and scan the passage for those specific terms. This method helps streamline your search and improves your chances of finding the correct answer efficiently.
Comprehension – go beyond stated facts
To excel in comprehension, it’s essential to look beyond the surface and delve into implied meanings and inferences within the text. Highlight transitions and cause-and-effect relationships in the passage, as these can often provide valuable clues to unstated information tested in the question. By understanding the underlying implications of the text, you’ll be better equipped to answer questions that require deeper analysis.
Vocabulary in use & sentence formation
This involves practicing the formation of grammatically correct sentences using new words. By actively incorporating new vocabulary into sentence formation, you not only enhance your understanding of the words but also strengthen your ability to apply them effectively during the exam.
Critical reasoning – identify biases & assumptions
Critical reasoning tasks require a keen eye for spotting biases and assumptions within arguments. Avoid falling for emotionally charged statements or opinions presented as facts. Instead, scrutinize the argument for underlying biases and assumptions, as these can significantly impact the validity of the reasoning presented.
Analyse the given evidence
When evaluating arguments, pay close attention to the quality of evidence presented to support a claim. Determine whether the evidence is anecdotal, based on logical fallacies, or sourced from credible sources. By critically assessing the evidence provided, you can better discern the strength of the argument and make informed decisions when answering related questions.
General awareness section
In general awareness questions, it’s essential to provide specific details rather than vague generalizations. While knowledge of current affairs is crucial, focus on key details such as dates, locations, or key figures associated with events. This level of specificity demonstrates a deeper understanding of the subject matter and increases your chances of answering accurately.
Think laterally
Consider how a recent scientific discovery may impact a historical event or social issue. By broadening your perspective and making unexpected connections, you demonstrate a more comprehensive understanding of the world around you.
Grammar and vocabulary
Rather than relying solely on rote memorization of grammar rules, improve your skills by actively practicing error recognition. Recognise sentence errors such as subject-verb agreement or improper word usage. This hands-on approach improves your ability to identify errors quickly and accurately during the exam, boosting your overall performance in grammar and vocabulary tasks.
