Owners of Silver Sands lot issued notice by City of Mandurah for years of ‘illegal dumping and camping’

The City of Mandurah is seeking to prosecute the owners of a Silver Sands property over what it says has been years of illegal dumping on the site.

Chief executive Casey Mihovilovich said that in October, the city issued a notice to the owners of the property on Henson Street in Silver Sands for dumping items and disused materials on the site.

However, the city believes the owners have not complied “sufficiently” with the notice.

“Illegal dumping and camping at the property have been occurring for many years. However, issues related to camping and antisocial behaviour have amplified in recent times,” Ms Mihovilovich said.

“Due to a range of abandoned materials currently on the site (including household items and waste), the city issued a notice to the owner of the property for dumping and disused materials.”

Ms Mihovilovich confirmed no prosecution for the illegal dumping had occurred but said the city was making preparations with its solicitors “to enforce the current notice and non-compliance with Bush Fires Act 1954”.

The situation was addressed at the April 23 council meeting when Deputy Mayor Caroline Knight asked city officers to provide an update on the property.
