Stylist Sarah Richardson seeks to attract all women with new print magazine Beyond Noise

London-based stylist Sarah Richardson and her photographer husband Richard Bush have recently launched a novel print magazine for women, entitled « Beyond Noise ».

The new biannual media, priced at 95 USD and powered by solar power using vegetable dye ink, comes in an unusual double format housed in a slip case: on the one hand, « Beyond », taking the shape of a series of photographies, and on the other, « Noise », its editorial content counterpart.

Richardson, who gained momentum in the industry as Global Fashion Director for i-D Magazine and more recently as Fashion Creative Director at Document Journal, embarked on this new journey as a way to attract a wider demographic of women — not just those enclosed in fashion’s microcosm.

As a result, Beyond Noise introduces within its pages several highbrow topics other than just fashion, such as art, tech, culture and environment. “Most independent women’s magazines are very much in an echo chamber of the fashion industry and they’re not really for people outside the industry — they are less relatable to the woman on the streets,” reports Richardson in an interview with American online magazine WWD.

Instead of the textbook magazine editor’s letter, the first issue begins with a manifesto written by environmental anthropologist Jane Goodall. Each opening statement will be « penned by a different visionary woman each issue », as stated on Beyond Noise’s website. Other esteemed contributors include fashion writer Anders Christian Madsen and American Vogue’s Chief Critic and journalist Sarah Mower.

The stellar cast binding Beyond Noise together doesn’t stop there. On the first issue’s cover of « Beyond », one can admire a portrait photo of supermodel du jour Vittoria Ceretti photographed by Zoë Ghertner, whereas « Noise » bears a black and white artistic focus on actress Jennifer Connelly’s doe-like, eyeliner-streaked eyes — shot by Craig McDean alongside a 10-page spread. Vanessa Friedman, Ayo Edeberi and Monica Bellucci are also amongst the 12 total stars gracing the covers of this innovative glossy.

If America has been deemed the core market by the artistic duo behind « Beyond Noise » , their expansion ambitions don’t halt there. The UK, then Europe and the rest of the world are all within the publication’s future plans. Not only that, but a website (thebeyondnoise.com) is already available to browse, and with the input of an AI-specialized director, seeks to deploy into an interactive, digital experience instead of your run of the mill, text-based web page.

The first issue of “Beyond Noise” is available now for online delivery on the Beyond Noise website for 95 USD.
