Peel Thunder supporters raise $24,500 for Foodbank in 2024 Charity Game Day Round

Peel Thunder marked another successful Foodbank Round on Saturday, raising $24,500 in much-needed funds for the food relief charity.

The charity round was a home game for Peel’s men’s, women’s and colts sides, with the colts and men’s teams taking home wins, but the WAFLW team went down 9.11 (65) to 3.4 (22) against Subiaco.

This year Alcoa came on board for the first time to match donations dollar-for-dollar, with volunteers also collecting non-perishable food donations during the games.

Peel Thunder commercial operations general manager Daniel Bandy said this year’s charity round had been “quite remarkable” and equated to more than 49,000 meals for those doing it tough.

“It’s been totally amazing the support we have had from the football community, plus the dollar match from Alcoa who have come onboard this year,” Mr Bandy said.

“Peel Thunder Football Club is super proud to support Foodbank and in collaboration with Alcoa make such a significant impact with the money raised to help those in need.

“A big thank you to everyone who donated money and/or food, especially considering how much of an issue food insecurity is locally.”

Foodbank has seen about 91 households come through the doors at its Peel branch per day in the past year — an increase on 71 households between 2022-23 — with 10 of those each day registering at the service for the first time.
