NINTENDO Switch has tonnes of great games in its library and Switch owners now have a chance to play one of the best titles in a genre completely free.
The free offer comes as the game’s long-awaited sequel still doesn’t have a firm release date.
Hollow Knight is available at not additional cost to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
From today, June 6, 2024, NSO members are treated to an exclusive Game Trial deal, which will let them play the metroidvania title for a full week.
Because Hollow Knight is about 25 hours long to beat, this deal gives players plenty of time to finish the entire game, so ‘trial’ is a bit of a misnomer here.
Hollow Knight released back in 2017 to rave reviews, praising the game for its atmosphere, responsiveness, charm system.
Many critics compared it to the Souls games for its challenging combat and boss fights.
It also has a similar mechanic of collecting an in-game currency which you lose if you die and have to recover by defeating the last enemy that killed you.
The Nintendo Switch release is the game’s highest-rated version on review aggregator Metacritic, with a massive 90 score.
You play as the titular Knight who explores an underground kingdom, battling enemies with precision, and collecting Geo to spend on items and upgrades.
It’s a metroidvania game, with a lot of hidden passages and new areas that are inaccessible at first, but unlock later as you progress and upgrade your character.
Players have been waiting eagerly for a sequel for seven years now, and the second game in the series, Hollow Knight Silksong, was supposed to launch in early 2023, but has been delayed.
There’s no set release date for the next instalment, but with Summer Game Fest 2024 almost upon us, we might get another glimpse of Silksong and even a new release window.
Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can grab the free week right now and will have until June 12, 2024, to play the first game.
This gives most players plenty of time to finish the game, but if you don’t manage, Hollow Knight is also on sale at 50% off until June 19.
To grab your free trial, just launch NSO on your Switch, and you will see the free trial on the NSO Home screen.
If you are a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber, you can also find Hollow Knight on the eShop and there will be a button at the top to download the game for free.
