IT’S been a while since the last Star Wars video game released, and fans have been eager to play something new.
After multiple delays, a new game in that galaxy far far away has just released, and players can jump in for free.

Star Wars: Hunters launched on June 4, 2024, for the Nintendo Switch, as well as iOS and Android devices.
It’s coming from developer Zynga, which is best known for its FarmVille games where you take care of cows and run all sorts of farming errands.
Zynga’s first foray into the Star Wars universe is much different, as Hunters is a squad-based arena shooter game.
Set after the fall of the Galactic Empire—that is, between the events of the Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens films—it lets you choose from a diverse cast of Star Wars characters.
You’re then matched with other players in 4v4 fights in several game modes with different objectives.
At launch Star Wars: Hunters has four modes:
- Squad Brawl – the teams play until one reaches 20 eliminations
- Power Control – squads must capture the most Control Points on the battlefield
- Dynamic Control – teams try to capture dynamically changing Control Points
- Trophy Chase – players must pick up and hold a trophy droid for their team
The game is free to play, but there is also a paid Arena Pass and a VIP Arena Pass that unlock additional rewards.
Hunters launches with a lineup of 13 characters, all of which are unlockable through natural progression, except the Mandalorian Aran Tal who is a bonus for buying the Arena Pass.
As with all live-service multiplayer games, there will be constant updates with new characters, events, maps and game modes.
Star Wars: Hunters is a competitive shooter, so there are both casual matches and a ranked mode which unlocks at Level 6.
You can download the game completely free from the Nintendo eShop on the Switch, the App Store on your iPhone or iPad, and Google Play on Android devices.
