Cook Government announces seniors will be able to travel to Rottnest Island with discount for winter

Seniors will be able to travel to Rottnest Island for $30, as part of a winter special announced by the Cook Government.

The capped fare applies to anyone with a WA Seniors Card.

The government says the seniors fare cap will save them at least $50 per person.

“Rottnest Island is one of our most iconic tourism destinations and we want more Western Australians to be able to access and enjoy our island paradise,” Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti said.

“There’s still so much to do and enjoy during the cooler months on the island, so it’s a great opportunity for WA seniors to get out and about, and save at least $50 on their travel.”

Ms Saffioti said the government was keen to make the island “more affordable and accessible for locals”.

“We’re very keen continue making the island more affordable and accessible for locals, and this program adds to other measures we’ve implemented to get more Western Australians to experience the island, including of course the school camp subsidy for students at lower socioeconomic schools,” she said.

Bookings open this Thursday (June 20) for travel from Jun 27 through to Sunday, August 18.
