Anime has gone mainstream. If you need proof, then look no further than Sony’s $1.175 billion acquisition of the anime streaming service Crunchyroll in 2021. While Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and Max have all expanded their selection of Japanese animation content, no service can really compete with Crunchyroll when it comes to the quantity of shows and movies. With that in mind, here’s everything new on Crunchyroll for the summer 2024 season.
A few popular shows are returning this summer, including The Cafe Terrace and Its Goddesses, NieR:Automata Ver1.1a, and Tower of God.
The return of Tower of God is especially notable, as the first season ended four years ago. It’s been a long time coming, but the heart-breaking cliffhanger the first season left us on will finally be resolved as we see what happens to Bam and the others following Rachel’s shock betrayal. The first season was just a small sliver of a much larger story.
There are also a bunch of shows returning from the Summer 2024 season, such as One Piece, My Hero Academia, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
