Ben Carson hasn’t talked with Trump about being running mate

(NewsNation) — Former secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson said on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday” that he has not spoken to former President Donald Trump about being vice president.

Carson, however, said he would not immediately decline an offer if it were to be given.

“I would prayerfully consider doing that,” he said. “Asking God what would be the best role for me in trying to save our country and to bring us back.”

Carson’s name has frequently come up in talks about vice presidential speculation. Despite a career as a neurosurgeon and a member of a president’s cabinet, Carson said he doesn’t plan on retiring anytime soon.

“I can’t have any fun watching my country go down the tubes,” Carson said.

One of the issues keeping Carson from the golf course is abortion. While he said he’s “pleased” with the way things have progressed since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, he wants the so-called pro-life movement to stop “fighting each other.”

“We’re all under the umbrella of pro-life,” he said. “And we’re making progress. And that’s what we need to do, we need to make the move toward a society that actually respects life.”
