Mandurah council to vote on recording council meetings, but livestreaming not available until 2025

City of Mandurah residents will soon be able to watch their council in action, with meetings set to be recorded and publicly released by next month but livestreaming of meetings won’t happen until next year.

In February, the council endorsed a proposal from Cr Ahmed Zilani for the city to prepare a policy on livestreaming meetings by mid-year.

The council was set to vote on putting this into practice at its July meeting on Tuesday night, with city officers endorsing a recommendation for audio and video recording of council meetings to start from the council’s next meeting on August 27.

This means the public will be able to watch a recording of the council’s decision on the fate of King Carnival and Shelter Brewing Co’s proposal for a $23 million redevelopment of the site, which is set to be decided at the August meeting.

But the livestreaming of meetings is not set to occur until January 2025.

The livestreaming of meetings will see the city meet the State Government’s deadline for large local governments to livestream and publish recordings of council meetings by January 1 next year.

City officers have also recommended proceedings that are closed to the public not be recorded until January as they wait on “procuring technology which will enable the efficient recording” of confidential meeting items.
