Sweet Home 3’s Jung Jin-young set for Miss Granny remake and more, in K-drama casting news

The roles of the elderly Oh Mal-soon (played by Na Moon-hee in the film) and the younger version of herself she turns into (originally played by Shim Eun-kyung) after visiting a magical photo studio will be filled by Kim Hae-sook (Under the Queen’s Umbrella) and Jung Ji-so (The Cursed) respectively.

After playing Mal-soon’s teenage grandson in the original film, Jung Jin-young will play Daniel Han, the TV producer who spots the rejuvenated Mal-soon’s stage talent.

The original Miss Granny, directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk (the creator of Squid Game), was a hit in Korea and spawned several localised remakes around the world.

This K-drama version will be the tenth remake of the film.

Jung Jin-young is also back on screens in Netflix’s Sweet Home season 3, which launched this week.

2. Reverse

Go Soo and Cha Joo-young are preparing to star in revenge melodrama Reverse. The series is based on an eight-part Naver audio series of the same name that aired in 2022 and starred Lee Sun-bin and Lee Joon-hyuk.

In this small-screen update, Cha will play Myo-jin, a woman who suffers from amnesia following a mysterious explosion in a villa.

Go will play Jun-ho, Myo-jin’s fiancé and the chief executive of a construction company. Together the couple attempt to piece together what happened to her.

Go, who last appeared in the second season of Missing: The Other Side in 2023, is also known for films such as The Royal Tailor and The Fortress, as well as for his small-screen work.

Although Cha has been active in dramas for close to a decade, her popularity exploded after she played a flight attendant in Netflix’s The Glory. She will next be seen opposite Lee Hyun-wook as the titular character in the period drama Queen Wongyeong.

On which platform Reverse will screen is yet to be determined, but filming for the series will begin at some point later this year once the cast is finalised.

3. Black Salt Dragon

The story, based on the webtoon That Man Is Black Salt Dragon, centres on a man and woman who met each other online in their school days. Sixteen years later they meet in real life when one starts working for the other.

Im will play Seo Ha-jin, Soo-jung’s bar-owner friend, while Kwak will appear as Kim Shin-won, Joo-yeon’s friend and colleague at Yongsung.

Black Salt Dragon is expected to be released in the first half of 2025.

4. Human Starting from Today

Shin Se-kyung (Run On) and Park Solomon, aka Lomon, (All of Us Are Dead) are mulling over offers to appear in the upcoming fantasy romantic comedy Human Starting from Today.

Shin is considering the role of Eun-ho, an unconventional gumiho (a mythical Korean nine-tailed fox) who, rather than seducing men and eating their livers, lives a quiet and carefree life, shirking responsibility to enjoy all the aspects of human life. She aims never to become a human and avoids men like the plague.

Despite all her efforts, she is unintentionally turned into a human thanks to an accident caused by Kang Si-yeol, a self-centred football star who may be played by Lomon.

The series will be directed by Kim Jung-kwon (Love to Hate You) and scripted by Park Chan-young (Best Chicken) and Cho Ah-young.
