Marquee Kaizer Chiefs target’s agent spills the tea, and it’s hot

Kaizer Chiefs didn’t arrive at the negotiation tables with enough money and that’s why they lost out on a key target.

Mayele to Kaizer Chiefs deal falls through

According to local journo Micky Jnr, Fiston Mayele’s agent has spilt the beans on why a move to Chiefs won’t be coming to fruition.

“No problem on the player side but it’s about the transfer fee, Micky. Kaizer Chiefs don’t want to pay while they have the money too, so the decision is in their hands,” Mayele’s agent said.

Kaizer Chiefs miss two key targets?

28-year-old Tumisang Orebonye and 30-year-old Fiston Mayele were two prime striker targets for Chiefs. Both know new manager Nasreddine Nabi well; Orebonye was recently under his tutelage at AS Far and Mayele scored a bucket load of goals for a treble-winning Young Africans side, also managed by the Tunisian. Orebonye would be available for free after his short-term deal at FAR expired, while R10 million is the number being quoted for Congolese star Mayele. He was on the Chiefs shortlist at the tail-end of 2022, and now it appears they’ve reignited their interest. He scored 15 goals and bagged five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions last term. Popular journalist Micky Jnr reports as much on his X account

Chiefs offered roughly R6 million too little

Sources close to the club added Pyramids FC have named their price for Mayele which was close to R20 million. The experienced 30-year-old Congolese marksman has three goals from 19 international caps.

“He is one of the players the coach really wants at the club. Yes, he is not coming cheap because they are talking between R14m to R20m. Now the team has prepared the offer for Pyramid to look at and they will take it from there. For what I know is that it’s a much bigger one than the one they offered to Stellenbosch FC for defender Fawaaz Basadien. I understand it is around R15m or so. They are stretching themselves on this one because they don’t want excuses at the end of the day. So, that offer is prepared and soon we will know what’s going on,” their source stated.
