‘Rhythm City’ star Mapula Mafole bags a role in ‘016 FM’

SAFTA-nominated actress Mapula Mafole stars alongside late actor Mpho Sebeng in Showmax’s drama series, 016 FM.

MAPULA MAFOLE: LATEST ROLE

The Generations: The Legacy and Rhythm City alumni Mapula Mafole has landed a role in 016 FM.

Entertainment commentator Mlu confirms that Mafole will also star alongside actress Noni Mafani and Sophie Ndaba on the show.

The upcoming drama series is set in the Vaal in Gauteng where two polar opposite DJs embark on a goal to save a radio station.

Fans of the actress took to social media to congratulate the popular actress for her latest role.

BACKGROUND OF ‘016 FM’

The actress Mapula Mafole also stars alongside actors Nthati Moshesh and Sello Motloung in the Showmax Original drama series, 016 FM.

OK Mzansi reports that the show follows two polar opposite DJs who join forces to save their beloved radio station.

Their journey is fraught with obstacles, including the need to oust a dangerous, shadowy syndicate that has infiltrated the station. The series promises intense drama and high-stakes action, capturing the heart and soul of the Vaal community.

016FM’s star-studded cast also includes Mpho Sebeng, Joseph Sedibe, Katlego Mabote, Tinah Mnumzana, Noni Mafani, Sophie Ndaba and Caddy Tsotetsi.

The Showmax drama series premiered on Wednesday, 26 June 2024.

LIFE AFTER ‘RHYTHM CITY’

TshisaLIVE revealed in 2022 that Mapula Mafole landed a role in 1Magic’s drama series Unmarried after Rhythm City.

Mafole who previously starred in Rhythm City says securing everything happened quickly with Unmarried character. 

“By the time we were getting scripts, and the ball was rolling. I started to see this character and how she was developing, and I was shook, I was like shook. But from a performance perspective it was really nice because it challenged me a lot.”

“This character she is not who we would call a nice person (we are not supposed to judge characters and I’m not). Things she does is not nice to her friends.”

The actress adds that the role was a reminded to herself that she’s capable of doing more than what she’s always done. She’s hoping that people who watched got to see that she’s a bit of range.

“I’m not just a schoolgirl type cast, I can be cast for more mature things. I can be cast for things that have more mature subject matter.”

Mafole adds that she will never forget her character on the e.tv soapie, Rhythm City.
