Aussie entrepreneur and mum Emily Hamilton founded the vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand Coco & Eve in 2018.

And now, just six years later, Coco & Eve is on track to exceed $120 million dollars in revenue.

Emily, 46, originally from Geelong, now living in Melbourne, started her career in digital marketing, product development and brand management.

Emily has worked in the beauty industry since 2011, and her inspiration for Coco & Eve first came to her after a transformative trip to Bali in 2015.

“I discovered the incredible benefits of raw coconuts and exotic botanicals in Bali. This lush paradise with nature’s secret to radiant skin and hair, inspired me to create a brand that captures tropical treasure,” Emily tells Best Picks.

“Driven by a passion for purity and performance, I founded Coco & Eve to capture the magic of Bali to beauty enthusiasts worldwide.”

Emily explains that Coco & Eve’s mission is simple: “To create high-quality, cruelty-free products that harness the power of nature to deliver real, visible results”.

“Every formula is meticulously crafted, blending potent ingredients with innovative technology, ensuring that our customers experience the best of both worlds,” she explains.

Emily says the launch of the brand was “an instant success”, so she was fortunate enough to be able to then “invest the profits back into the business to fund the growth”.

However, in 2019, the female founder decided to invest heavily into R&D to fund clinical and consumer trials and needed funds to do so.

“I made the decision to sell my Melbourne house to keep funding Coco & Eve. It was a huge sacrifice and a big investment but the key strategy to the growth of the brand we see today,” Emily says.

Emily explains that her biggest “pinch-me moment” she has experienced so far with the brand is launching in store in UIta, a major beauty retailer in the US, as well as Coco & Eve’s launch going viral.

“Ulta is our biggest retailer globally and we continue to beat forecasts and get more growth opportunities with them,” Emily says.

Until recently, Coco & Eve has always been entirely self-funded and owned by Emily and her husband Alexander.

US Private Equity firm, Gauge Capital is Coco & Eve’s first ever investor and the company is now on target to reach over $120 million in revenue in the 2024 calendar year.

Emily says it’s “an exhilarating milestone for Coco & Eve and it’s a result of our commitment to quality, innovation and the incredible dedication of our team”.

“Seeing our brand grow from a passionate idea into a global phenomenon is immensely gratifying,” she says.

“It feels like a dream come true to know that our products have touched the lives of millions around the world. “

Emily adds: “This success validates our mission and motivates us to continue pushing boundaries, focusing on innovation and fostering the true uniqueness of Coco & Eve.”

Emily explains that “ultimately, this achievement is a shared victory with our loyal customers, partners, and team members.

“It’s their trust and support that have fuelled our journey, and we are excited to continue this adventure, innovating and inspiring every step of the way.”

In terms of what the future holds for Coco & Eve, Emily says she will “personally continue to grow and nurture the brand, create amazing innovative products” and grow the company’s omni-channel strategy.
