Monday not a holiday after Springboks, Proteas, Dricus du Plessis

South Africans WILL need to show up for work on Monday, 19 August with the day NOT declared a public holiday after the Springboks, Proteas and Dricus du Plessis all emerged victorious over the weekend.

A parody South African Department X account appeared to indicate that the Presidency had convened and resolved to make the day a public holiday, encouraging South Africans to ‘braai and celebrate how much we’ve been winning lately’.

However, new Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, was quick to refute the post, telling South Africans to attend work in the morning.

Springboks, Proteas, Dricus du Plessis all winners

As reported by The South African website, the Springboks beat Australia for the second time in as many weekend’s on Saturday, winning 30-12 in Perth after defeating the Wallabies 33-7 in Brisbane seven days’ prior.

The Proteas defeated the West Indies by 40 runs on the third day of the second and final Test on Saturday after the first Test had ended in a draw.

Finally, Dricus du Plessis defended his UFC middleweight title at UFC 305 on Sunday morning after stopping challenger Israel Adesanya in Round 4 in Perth.
