It was a highly stressful time in Kamohelo Mahlatsi. The former Kaizer Chiefs attacker was clubless for two months after leaving Chippa United.
CHIPPA UNITED EXPLAIN KAMOHELO MAHLATSI EXIT
Not long ago, the 25-year-old Mahlatsi was one of the most exciting youngsters in South African football while he was playing at SuperSport United. The Sebokeng-born midfielder continued to impress at Moroka Swallows before earning the move to Kaizer Chiefs.
Sadly, things did not work out at Naturena. Mahlatsi endured a couple of months without a club before emerging at Chippa in the middle of last season. Suddenly, the Eastern Cape club has released “Nyaope.”
“Kamohelo has done well but after the injury, he struggled and he was not the same,” Chippa’s co-coach Thabo September told the Citizen.
“What we needed from him was to get goals and create goals. Although he did well to make the structure of the team better but it just didn’t work out in terms of what we planned with him. We needed to make changes but Kamo did well for the football club,” September concluded on the former Kaizer Chiefs star.
MARUMO GALLANTS CALL
Meanwhile, Gallants, who have purchased Moroka Swallows, are set to announce Mahlatsi ahead of 14 September’s opener against Kaizer Chiefs in Bloemfontein.
“FARPost understands that the former SA’s junior international has impressed the club’s technical team led by Dan Malesela,” the outlet said.
His agent Mike Makaab added: “Kamohelo Mahlatsi is at Marumo Gallants. He has not signed with the team, but we are very close to finalising the deal. We are optimistic that the deal will be sealed in the next coming days.”
GEORGE MALULEKA ON LEAVING KAIZER CHIEFS
Remember the talent of George Maluleka at SuperSport United, Ajax Cape Town, Kaizer Chiefs, and briefly at Mamelodi Sundowns? Why did he decide to leave Amakhosi for Kabo Yellow?
The season was 2019/20 with Amakhosi moving towards league glory. The January transfer windows arrived to witness Maluleka making a shock move away from Kaizer Chiefs to Sundowns.
“It was unfortunate, and it happened. I don’t want to say it was supposed to happen that way,” Maluleka said via the Citizen.
“That year we were supposed to win the league as Kaizer Chiefs since I was there. But I left, and it didn’t happen, and a lot of people say it was because of me which is fine, I also understand.
“I also tried to explain to them that there were a lot of players, there were a lot of us, it’s a team sport, and it’s team-based.
“I did contribute my part, my bit for that season, and my agent couldn’t I don’t want to say finish the deal. But we couldn’t agree to terms, unfortunately,” the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder concluded.
