Kmart under fire over ‘common’ problem with popular fashion buy: ‘So embarrassing’

Kmart shoppers have flooded social media with complaints of an “embarrassing” flaw in a popular fashion buy.

Sharing on a popular Facebook group, one customer revealed how she’d purchased two pairs of Kmart’s Boot Mid Rise jeans – and both split down the buttocks seam after a few wears.

The woman shared images to show how a section had frayed along the seam, creating an unfortunate rip.

The post prompted a huge reaction online, with many saying that they’d had the same issue with the popular jeans – leaving them “horrified”.

One claimed that a Kmart staff member had told her that “about 15 pairs” of the same jeans had been returned to the store in just one week due to the ripped seam.

In her initial post, the shopper said she was “nervous” to take the ripped jeans back to her store for a refund.

“This is the second time this has happened – exact same jeans and place of fray,” she wrote on the Kmart Hacks & Decor page.

“They gladly let me exchange them, but I’m too nervous to ask for another exchange or store credit – my bottom’s not that big to bust the seam again.”

The post sparked a huge response from customers who’d experienced the same problem with embarrassing consequences.

“Same thing happened to mine – was out all day and at the end of the day when I took them off, I was horrified!” one said.

“How long had I been out and about with this going on?!?!? Who out there had seen my butt and not said anything?”

Another wrote: “I had the same thing with the jeans – returned them as I thought they were faulty, got another pair and the same thing happened. So embarrassing when you’re down the street and realise.”

A third added: “Mine did the same thing and took them back and got a refund, there is a fault in them. The customer service lady told me she had had about 15 pairs returned the week I returned mine.”

One more said: “It’s given me so much validation that so many others have experienced this with these exact jeans. They’re so nice. I’d like to find something similar from somewhere else cause I loved them!”

Another responded: “I had two pair, exact same thing happened. I bloody loved those jeans.”

After reading the post, another checked her jeans and found that they too had split – without her realising.

“Just checked some I wore over the weekend. I am trying to think if I had a long jacket over the bum,” she said.

Others said they’d gone up a size or tried another style with positive results.

“I have had two pairs in that colour and both spilt in the same spot! However the black and light jeans boot cut are good,” one wrote.

Another said: “This happened to me as well. I had only worn them two or three times. They weren’t even that tight. Took them back, they gave me a credit and I got a different design.”

Added one more: “I’ve had it happen to three pairs. I went up a size and all good. Good quality jeans costs more and they never fit like these ones.”

The shopper who posted the original complaint later said it was “overwhelming” to read that so many people had the same issue with the jeans.

“I will return jeans and hopefully get a store credit as I’m not willing to go through this again,” she said.

“It’s a bloody shame though as I’m a Kmart jeans lover and have never had this happen ever, quantity over quality.”
