Jonathan Taylor is expected return to Colts camp this week

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor will be back at camp this week, head coach Shane Steichen told reporters.

Taylor, who is in the middle of a contract standoff with Indy, had been going through his rehab for an ankle injury at a facility away from the team.

He had been there since early last week, according to ESPN

However, he is expected to be back soon.

“He should be back this week,” Steichen said. “Do I know the exact date he’ll be back? No, but he should be back.”

Despite Taylor’s desire to work out an extension with the Colts, the team has declined to engage in talks and Taylor went on to request a trade.

He is set to be a free agent after this season and no end is in sight for either side at the moment as team owner Jim Irsay has said they would not accommodate the trade request.

“We will not trade Jonathan Taylor,” Irsay said. “That is a certainty. Not now or not in October.”

Right now, the NFL’s leading rusher in 2021 is focused on returning to the field when he is 100%, ESPN reported.

He is trying to avoid having his ankle become an issue again and that was also why he opted to rehab away from the team, a source told the outlet.

Taylor had been on the physically unable to perform list when he arrived at Colts camp back on July 25.

Steichen said that it is up to the team’s medical staff to determine when Taylor can return to action.

Taylor had a league-leading 1,811 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns in 2021, finishing as an All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection.

In three seasons with the Colts, he’s rushed for 3,841 yards and 33 touchdowns.
