Kerala chief minister to launch textbooks incorporating content omitted by NCERT

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Left government announced its plan to publish supplementary textbooks for 11th and 12th standards. These textbooks will include the content that was previously removed by the NCERT, generating criticism nationwide due to the exclusion of essential portions in subjects as part of the syllabus rationalization process.

The State General Education Minister, V Sivankutty, announced that these additional textbooks will be launched on August 23, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan presiding over the release ceremony at a government school.
While the exclusion of topics from classes 1 to 10, which utilize state-specific textbooks, may not impact Kerala, the omission of significant portions from the NCERT textbooks used in classes 11 and 12 is deemed unacceptable. The state places particular emphasis on the humanities subjects such as history, sociology, and political science, and hence, the removal of crucial content from these areas has prompted the government’s decision to create supplementary resources.

Vigilant about preserving the integrity of the country’s history and constitutional values, the minister expressed his firm stance that while textbooks should evolve with the times, fundamental aspects of the nation’s foundation should remain unchanged. He emphasized that Kerala will continue to stand against any such actions in the future that compromise these values.
