NEW DELHI: Raksha Bandhan is just around the corner and schools across the country have declared holidays for Raksha Bandhan and another upcoming festival, Onam. Kerala schools will remain closed from August 28 to August 30, 2023, in view of Onam, however, there is confusion among students and parents related to the Raksha Bandhan school holiday date.
Some schools have declared the Rakhi school holiday 2023 on August 30 while others have announced a holiday on August 31, but why is it so?
This year, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on August 30, but it can also be celebrated on August 31 due to Bhadra Kaal.
For the exact date of your Raksha Bandhan school holiday, students are advised to check the circulars released by their respective schools.
Raksha Bandhan 2023: Rakhi Tying Time
Purnima Tithi will begin on August 30 at 10:45 AM, and almost at the same time, Bhadra will also begin at 11:00 AM and will end at 09:03 PM. So, during Bhadra time people will not celebrate Rakhi as Bhadra Kaal is considered inauspicious to tie Rakhi.
Purnima Tithi will end on August 31 at 07:05 AM so in that case being a Surya-Udaye Purnima will be considered auspicious and people can have a Rakhi celebration on August 31. So people can either celebrate Raksha Bandhan on August 30 after 09:00 PM or on August 31 before 07:05 AM.
