While the shade 450 deep neutral worked well for me, the limited shade range left a bit to be desired with only 15 shades to choose from. In catching up with Chan at the launch event, I learned that the shades are meant to be adaptable, and are all a neutral undertone to help facilitate this. Plus the brand plans to expand the shade range soon.
As for the safe-to-sleep-in claims, you’re probably wondering what exactly makes this foundation safe to sleep in. While the formula contains 68% skin-care ingredients like hyaluronic acid, allantoin, and centella asiatica and doesn’t contain silicones or fragrance, derms still advise against sleeping in foundation — even this one.
“For optimal skin health, a gentle cleanser at night (as the minimum) is a good way to liberate the skin from anything inhibiting natural regeneration which happens at night,” says board-certified dermatologist Mona Gohara, MD. According to cosmetic chemist Amanda Lam, the skin-care benefits in the foundation do help to soothe and hydrate the skin, but both Lam and Dr.Gohara agree that while it’s best to not sleep in the foundation, doing so once in a while won’t wreak havoc on your skin.
After wearing it for over eight hours, I’m impressed with how it held up throughout the day without getting oily or cakey, so it’s landed a spot in my everyday makeup rotation. While I won’t be sleeping in this foundation anytime soon, I will be wearing it on every date night going forward.
The Youthforia Date Night Skin Tint Serum Foundation is $48 and available now at credobeauty.com and ulta.com.
