Perth fuel prices: Unleaded petrol surges by 30c per litre from Sept 30 with warning price will keep rising

Motorists should rush to the bowser as petrol prices are expected to surge again.

Despite the rate hitting an all-time high on Wednesday, at an average of 223 cents per litre, one expert has warned the price could reach a staggering 280 cents per litre, or higher by the middle of 2024. Curtin University Sustainable Engineering Professor Liam Wagner, said that fuel was the driver of all the items we consume.

“Diesel really supplied all the food we get at the supermarkets and all of the clothes we wear,” he told 9News.

“We’ve seen a decrease in production in the US in the last three months, and we’ve also seen that Saudi Arabia has restricted its supply.”

It will be a week before the price drops again to the bottom of the price cycle.

The highest recorded prices was at Ampol, at 235.9 cents per litre. At the cheaper end of the scale was Vibe at 228.9 cents per litre.

Drivers can swerve those prices and find cheaper alternatives, with 26 individual stores that offer a low price of 196 cents per litre.

Motorists are encouraged to check the FuelWatch website to find cheap deals, as fueling up from a cheaper store can make a huge difference.
