Paris’s avenue des Champs-Elysées is increasingly in demand, with several store relocations and inaugurations taking place one year ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games. JD Sports and Calvin Klein have announced future openings on the Champs-Elysées, and Urban Outfitters will also follow suit. According to commercial real estate specialist Knight Frank, the US label has picked a location at number 102 on the famous avenue.
Urban Outfitters will set up shop midway through the avenue, opposite Fouquet’s restaurant, at a 680-square-metre premises close to the Sandro, Nike, Swatch and Zara stores. The store’s inauguration date is as yet unknown.
Urban Outfitters is accustomed to designing unusual, striking retail interiors, and no doubt it will aim to do the same with this new location. The store will commercialise the label’s ready-to-wear collections for women and men, accessories, lingerie, home decoration objects and gadgets.
Urban Outfitters already operates a store at 146 rue de Rivoli in the French capital, opened in 2018. Since then, it has also opened in Nice, at the Cap 3000 shopping mall, while the label’s owner URBN has in the last few years entered the French market with its other labels, Anthropologie and Free People.
Urban Outfitters was founded in Philadelphia in 1970 and has more than 200 stores worldwide. It went through a troubled patch in Q2 2023 (between May and July), when its direct sales fell by 14.1%. The trend for the URBN group as a whole (comprising Urban Outfitters, Free People, Anthropologie, Nuuly and other labels) was instead positive, with revenue growing by 7.5% in the same period, to $1.27 billion.
