NTA JEE Mains 2024: Exam schedule, eligibility and other important details

The National Testing Agency (NTA) recently announced the tentative dates for the Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE) 2024.
According to the schedule published by the NTA in October, the exam for session 1 is expected to commence between January 24 and end on February 1, 2024.
For session 2, the exam will take place between April 1 to 5, 2024.
JEE is an engineering entrance exam conducted for admission to various engineering colleges in India. It is in two parts as two different examinations: the JEE Main and the JEE Advanced.
JEE Main is the first stage of the JEE entrance exam. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) twice in a year (January and April) to offer admissions into various government and private colleges depending upon the rank of the candidate.
Following the trend from previous years, the JEE Mains exam 2024 is expected to initiate its registration process for session 1, from December second week.
For session 2, it is expected that the registration process will begin in February 2024.
The official notification will be issued by the organising authority- NTA in due course of time.
Expected exam pattern for JEE Mains 2024
Paper 1 is for engineering and science courses. It’s split into three sections: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with each section having 30 questions, making it a total of 90 questions. In each section, there are 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and 10 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. For MCQs, candidates pick the right answer from four options. For NAT questions, candidates need to enter a numerical answer.
Paper 2 is aimed at architecture and planning courses. It also has three sections: Mathematics (30 questions), Aptitude Test (50 questions, which assess spatial reasoning, logical reasoning, and analytical skills), and Drawing Test (2 questions, evaluating drawing skills and 3D object visualization).
JEE Main Paper 1 is worth a maximum of 360 marks, while Paper 2 has a maximum of 300 marks. Both papers have negative markings, where 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect MCQ response and 0.5 marks are deducted for incorrect NAT answers.
