Haryana work education instructors demand meeting with CM after protests

CHANDIGARH: The Agitating Work Education Instructors Committee, which had been protesting against the Haryana government regarding their legitimate demands since June 22, 2023, was stopped by the administration from meeting the Chief Minister. Despite over four months of peaceful protests, when their demands were not accepted, the committee members collectively decided to discuss the issue with the Chief Minister.
The members had left the protest site and were peacefully marching toward the CM House to meet the Chief Minister. However, the administration and the police force prevented them from advancing. Subsequently, the members sat on the ground to register their protest against the government and the erring officials who have been delaying the process.
During the protest, one female employee fell unconscious due to the use of force by the police. After hours of protesting, a delegation of work instructors was finally taken to meet Rajesh Khullar at his residence in Panchkula. He assured the delegation that their concerns would be addressed and asked them to return for a meeting on Saturday. Following this assurance, the employees returned to the protest site.
On this occasion, Rajat Bhatt, State President of the Work Education Instructors Committee, and his team decided to continue the strike at the protest site until their demands are met.
It’s worth mentioning that under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Comprehensive Education), Work Education Instructors have been working in various government schools in Haryana since August 2014. The ongoing protest at Shiksha Sadan Sector 5 Panchkula was initiated by the teachers on June 22, 2023, to press the government to fulfil their legitimate demands. The teachers have been demanding inclusion in the Bylaws of 2013 framed by the Council.
Earlier, during the dharna, four members of the committee observed a fast unto death for six consecutive days from August 2, 2023. The workers ended their fast after Mr Rajesh Khullar, then ACS and now CPS of the Haryana Government, assured them that their demands would be met. “Despite the assurance, the demands have not been fulfilled and are deliberately being ignored by the administration and the government. The only reason for today’s protest march was to wake up the government from its slumber,” said the president.
Following Khullar’s assurance, the work education instructors postponed their protest march.
