ArtNow submissions open
New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU) is accepting submissions for ArtNow 2024, its annual Santa Clara County juried high school exhibition. Students are invited to create an original work of art that explores being “In Transition” from childhood into adulthood.
This year’s theme was co-created with the ArtNow Teen Council with an eye toward making the program widely accessible and relevant to teenagers living across Santa Clara County.
Submissions are open through Jan. 28, 2024. For requirements and more information, visit https://newmuseumlosgatos.submittable.com.
Math whizzes
The Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District ranked No. 1 in the state in mathematics on this year’s standardized tests, taken by juniors this spring. More than 73% of the district’s 11th-graders met or exceeded the state standards in math, compared to 59.5% of students in Santa Clara County and almost 47% of juniors throughout the state. District juniors also met or exceeded the state standards in English language arts and science, with 78.5% scoring above par on the former test and more than 62% in the latter.
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress and California Science Test are given to public school students in California in grades 3-8, and again in grade 11. The board of trustees is set to hear a full presentation on the district’s state assessment results at its Nov. 14 meeting.
