UPSC NDA & NA 1 2023 Marks: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the final marks of successful candidates from the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (NDA & NA 1 2023). These candidates had been recommended for admission to the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy for the 151st course and the Indian Naval Academy for the 113th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC).
The result is made available on the UPSC website at https://www.upsc.gov.in.
The written examination took place on April 16, and subsequently, selected candidates were invited for interviews by the Services Selection Board of the Ministry of Defence. It’s important to note that UPSC did not consider the results of the medical examination when compiling the final results.
Out of the pool of candidates who participated in the UPSC NDA & NA 1 2023 examination, 628 successfully qualified. These individuals met the selection criteria set by UPSC. To reach this stage, candidates had to achieve a minimum qualifying standard of 301 marks out of 900 at the written stage, with a prerequisite of at least 25% marks in each subject. The last recommended candidate at the final stage secured 664 marks out of 1800.
In the N.D.A. & N.A.(I) Examination-2023, Shivraj Singh Pachhai claimed the top position, achieving an impressive 1002 marks, including 529 in the written examination and 473 in the SSB assessment. Following closely in second place was Ishan Tripathi, with a total of 997 marks, comprising 510 in the written examination and 487 in the SSB assessment. In the event of a tie in the aggregate marks among two or more candidates in the NDA & NA Examination (I), 2023, the following principles, approved by the Commission, were applied to resolve the tie:
(i) When candidates had achieved an equal aggregate score, the candidate who was senior in age was positioned at a higher rank.
(ii) In cases where candidates shared the same age, the candidate with a higher score in the written examination was assigned the higher rank. This ensured a fair and systematic approach to ranking candidates with equal marks, considering both age and performance in the written examination.
The candidates who were recommended underwent a test to assess their intelligence and personality. For those who wanted to join the Army or Navy, they were evaluated on their potential to become officers. If they wanted to join the Air Force, they had to pass an additional test called the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) in addition to the first test. If they chose the Air Force and passed the first test, they also took the CPSS if they agreed to it.
There were two stages for selecting candidates. The first stage included tests to check their thinking and intelligence. This took place on the first day when candidates arrived at Selection Centers, Air Force Selection Boards, or Naval Selection Boards. Only those who passed the first stage proceeded to the second stage and other tests. Candidates who passed the second stage had to provide their original certificates and photocopies of their Matriculation pass certificate (or equivalent for showing their date of birth) and their 10+2 pass certificate (or equivalent to show their educational qualifications).
