Information from a parts catalog for the upcoming 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 appears to have confirmed that the car will rock a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8, although some questions about the powertrain remain.

A source from the Mid Engine Corvette Forum with access to a GM parts catalog recently stumbled across a turbo air inlet and an air cleaner intake that was listed for the new engine. The catalog confirms this engine will be known as the LT7 and that it is a 5.5-liter V8 with forced induction, dual overhead cams, active fuel management, direct injection, and variable valve timing.

Interestingly, a member of the forum who spoke with an “informed source” shortly after the information leak says that the active fuel management system was incorrectly listed and that it will not be found in the LT7.

The one thing this information doesn’t reveal is whether or not the ZR1 will retain the same flat-plane crank as the Corvette Z06 or if it will opt for a more traditional and affordable cross-plane crank. Many seem to think that Chevy will opt for a cross-plane crank as it doesn’t need to rev as high to make power. Others point to twin-turbocharged, flat-plane crank V8s from Ferrari and McLaren as proof that Chevy could simply lower the V8’s redline for use in the ZR1.

Whatever the case may be, the car will be powerful. Just how powerful? A couple of weeks ago, Motor Trend speculated the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 could be supplemented by a pair of small electric motors at the front axle to produce over 900 hp. The presence of electric motors also remains unconfirmed as other sources believed the twin-turbo, hybrid V8 will be reserved for the flagship Corvette Zora with in excess of 1,000 hp.

Regardless, now is clearly a very exciting time to be a Corvette enthusiast.
