Did Kaizer Chiefs benefit from playing without fans? Khune responds

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune said Wednesday’s DStv Premiership match against Cape Town Spurs felt more like a training match.

Amakhosi won the game 3-2 to end their three game winless streak and move within the top 8 of the PSL.

Chiefs captain Khune that the Spurs match felt more like training, and compared the game to the ones that were played during Covid.

“I think it’s always great playing in front of the fans because they always give us an extra push but yesterday(Wednesday), it felt like we were in a training field playing a friendly. But we knew that we were competing for the points with Cape Town Spurs,” Khune was quoted on FARPost.

“We knew that we needed to get maximum points playing at home so that we could move up the log and it felt like we went back to Covid-19. But then we just needed to share our own experiences coming from different clubs and how it felt like playing without fans.

“So, we knew that we needed this win so that it can boost our confidence going into the derby,” said Khune.

The club has recently parted ways with Molefi Ntseki but in their last two matches, Amakhosi looked positive on the ball and new interim coach Cavin Johnson appears to be taking the club to a different direction.

His biggest test will come on Saturday when Kaizer Chiefs play Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby.

Khune is likely to start in goals against the Buccaneers.
