Odisha to provide special grant to colleges, varsities for holding competitions among students

BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department will provide special grants to degree colleges and state public universities under the Integrated Youth Development Programme (IYDP) for organizing competitions among students in the fields of sports, culture, and social work-related activities.
According to the criteria, colleges with a student strength between 100 and 150 will receive a Rs 1.5 lakh grant.The department will give grants of Rs 3 lakh for higher education institutions with a student strength between 200 and 500. Similarly, Rs 4 lakh for institutions with 500-1000 students, Rs 6 lakh for 1000-2000 students’ strength, and Rs 9 lakh for institutions with more than 2000 students.
The state government has launched a new scheme under the IYDP to encourage youth participation in sports, culture, and social work, making them active partners in the state’s development. The new scheme envisions conducting competitions and activities among students at the institutional level. Later, Youth Festivals will be organized under the scheme at the district and state levels, according to official sources.
In a high-level meeting held here on Friday, higher education minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said that 687 higher education institutions, including all government, government-aided colleges, and universities, are covered under the scheme.
Institutions will organize competitions among students from November 15 to December 31. For the successful implementation of the scheme, the Sports and Youth Services Department has provided funds and implementation guidelines. The main objective of the scheme is to promote sports, cultural activities, and social activities in the institutions, said the minister.
“These activities will provide a platform for youth to develop their leadership, team spirit, and individual talents and will connect them with the larger community,” he added.
