Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification approved by the government can apply for the advertised posts.
The prelims examination is scheduled for January 2024, and the Main exam is expected to be held in February 2024.
SBI Clerk – salary
The pay for SBI Clerk positions is relatively higher than that of other entry-level roles in the banking sector. As per the information available, the initial Basic Pay is Rs.19900/- (Rs.17900/- plus two advance increments for graduates). In metropolitan areas like Mumbai, the total starting emoluments for a Clerical Cadre employee, inclusive of D.A., current allowances, and two extra increments, will be approximately Rs.37,000/- per month.

SBI Clerk – promotions
State Bank of India (SBI) offers a structured career progression path for its clerks, providing them with ample opportunities to advance to higher positions within the bank. SBI conducts internal promotion examinations and interviews at regular intervals, allowing eligible clerks to apply for promotions. To be eligible for promotion from Clerk to Officer, candidates must successfully complete the promotion test, appear for an interview, and have at least two years of service in the bank. There are three kinds of promotions offered to SBI clerks-
In-Cadre promotions includes:
- After 10 years of service, an assistant becomes a Senior Assistant, receiving a special allowance of Rs 1800, which is not included in the basic pay calculation.
- With twenty years of service, an assistant advances to the position of Special Assistant. This post includes a special allowance of Rs 2500, which is considered for the basic pay calculation.
- After thirty years of service, an assistant achieves the rank of Senior Special Assistant, with a special allowance of Rs 3500, factored into the basic pay calculation.
Promotions from SBI Clerk to Officer Cadre as Trainee Officer:
A clerk with three years of service can become a trainee officer by passing a written test and interview. These trainee officers undergo a probationary period lasting two years from the date of their appointment. Depending on their performance during this probation, they may either be permanently placed in the Middle Management Grade Scale-II (MMGS-II) cadre or returned to the clerical cadre
Promotion to Junior Manager Grade Scale (JMGS-I):
After completing six years of service through a fast-track promotion route or twelve years through a regular promotion path, a clerk is eligible to become a Junior Manager Grade Scale (JMGS-I) officer upon successfully clearing a written test and interview. It’s important to note that this promotion is subject to an upper age limit.
